Digital Image Correlation & Mars 2020: A Discussion about the Development of the Heat Shield
Everyone at Correlated Solutions will be glued to the live NASA feed on February 18, 2021 to witness the landing of the Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover. We are honored that our digital image correlation systems were used in the development of the heat shield – a crucial component for the Rover to enter the Martian atmosphere safely. To mark this occasion, we’re excited to present an in-depth discussion between Alistair Tofts from Correlated Solutions and senior aerospace engineer, Dr. Sotiris Kellas about the Mars 2020 mission and the role digital image correlation played. Dr. Kellas was the technical lead of the NASA Engineering and Safety Center team which supported the development of the heat shield on the Mars 2020 spacecraft.
